Do Instead Privacy Policy

Do Instead (“the product”) is a distraction blocker by Groei B.V. (“we”, “us”). It ships as a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and an iOS app, blocks the sites and apps you choose, and shows your own tasks instead.

The short version

We collect nothing about you. Do Instead has no accounts, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
Your settings stay with you. Blocklists, snooze length and hobby projects live in your browser’s extension storage and on your iPhone. We run no server that can read them.
Your tasks stay between you and your task manager. The product talks directly to Todoist and to Apple Reminders on your device; task data never touches our infrastructure.

Where your data goes when the product makes network requests

Todoist (external, optional): if you connect Todoist by pasting your personal API token, the extension and the app call api.todoist.com directly to read and complete your tasks. Your token and your task data go to Todoist and nowhere else. This traffic is governed by the Todoist (Doist) Privacy Policy.
Apple Reminders (on-device): the iOS app reads and completes reminders through Apple’s EventKit on your device, with your permission. Reminder data never leaves your device through the product.
Apple (external): processes the optional Pro subscription (see “Purchases” below).

The product loads no remote code, calls no analytics service, and pings no server of ours in normal operation.

Moving settings between devices

Transfer codes (default): you can export your settings — including the Todoist token, if connected — as a QR code or a text code and import it on another device. The code is generated locally and shown only to you; it travels however you choose to carry it. Treat it like a password if your token is in it.

Purchases

The iOS app offers an optional auto-renewable Pro subscription with a 7-day free trial. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store; we never see your name, payment details, or Apple Account. Apple’s handling of purchase data is described in the Apple Privacy Policy. The browser extension is free and has no purchases.

Permissions the product asks for, and why

Reading and changing data on websites / web requests (extension): used solely to redirect navigation away from sites on your blocklist to the block screen. The extension does not read page content.
Reminders access (iOS): to show due reminders on the block screen and mark them complete when you say so.
Screen Time / Family Controls (iOS, strict mode): to shield the apps and sites you select. Apple’s privacy design keeps the selection opaque to us.

Your rights

We hold no data about you, so access, correction and deletion happen on your devices: edit or clear the settings, disconnect Todoist, or uninstall. For any privacy question, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change what the product does with data, we will update this policy, change the effective date above, and describe the change in the release notes before it takes effect.
